Favored...or not, this was the Orchestra's Final Spring Concert on May 11, 2022. All of Janitell's orchestra groups -- Pop Orchestra, Beginning Orchestra, Intermediate Orchestra, and Advanced Orchestra -- performed well that night, considering it would be the last.

Pop Orchestra performed Any Way You Want It by Michael Story & Dragon Hunter by Richard Meyer. Beginning Orchestra performed Impulse by Brian Balmages & Medieval Kings Richard Meyer. Intermediate Orchestra performed Wasatch Boulevard by Robert Frost & As Evening Falls by Anne Svendsen. Advanced Orchestra performed the final four songs, Our Heros by Susan H. Day, Baroque Fanfare by Richard Rigg, March of the Shadows by Brian Balmages, & El Gato Pizzicato by Richard Meyer.

Included in this final concert were annual awards. The following awards were given to multiple students, including the CSYS (Colorado Springs Youth Symphony), the Honors Orchestra Award, Solo Ensemble award, & The Directors award.

Mr. Velazquez, the orchestra teacher said "Each orchestra did fantastically. The concert was a huge success." When we asked him what his favorite songs were and what the highlight of the concert was he replied, "My highlight of the concert was every time my students stood up to be recognized and the audience applauded. My favorite song performed by the beginning orchestras was Impulse. My favorite song performed by intermediate was As Evening Falls. My favorite song performed by the advanced orchestra was Baroque Fanfare. My favorite song performed by Pop Orchestra was Anyway You Want It."

To improve the future Orchestra performances Mr. Velazquez plans "to recruit more orchestra students, so more students have the opportunity to create music." Hopefully these amazing performances continue to be fun and engaging.
