Academics
Our central mission at Janitell is preparing students for success in high school and beyond. In addition to great instruction in core academic areas, Janitell focuses on several pathways:
Arts: Janitell offers Drama and Visual Arts classes. Our students learn a variety of skills, ranging from digital art to acting to traditional artistic media.
Gifted and Talented: Janitell offers strong support for our Gifted and Talented students. Our program focuses on challenging and supporting our students in developing academically and personally.
Music: we are one of the best music schools at the middle school level in the Pikes Peak region, and we offer a wide array of music instruction.
Technology: we provide our students with many technology courses for developing foundational skills in engineering.
Janitell follows the Colorado Academic Standards, and we have several areas of focus in our core academics:
Reading: Developing reading skills is critical for success in middle school and beyond. This includes both reading comprehension and fluency.
Writing: Middle school students should be taught a variety of writing styles, including narrative, expository, persuasive, and descriptive. They should also learn how to revise and edit their own work.
Mathematics: Middle school students should learn basic math skills, including arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and data analysis.
Science: Middle school students should be introduced to the basic concepts of physical, biological, and earth sciences, and should learn how to apply scientific principles and methods.
Social studies: Middle school students should learn about history, geography, economics, and government, and should develop an understanding of how these subjects are interrelated.
