President's Day

There will be no school on Monday, February 16 in observance of President’s Day. This federal holiday falls on the third Monday in February each year and honors the leadership and service of George Washington as the nation’s first president, as well as all U.S. presidents who followed him.

Originally established in the 1880s as a holiday for Washington’s birthday, the date was moved to a Monday under the Uniform Monday Holiday Act of 1968 to create consistent three-day weekends for workers and families.

Because President’s Day is a federal observance, many government offices and services are closed that day. Students and parents are encouraged to plan accordingly.
