In a historic moment for Janitell, the school welcomes its first-ever girls' soccer teams, sparking a wave of enthusiasm among students. For the first time, Janitell will see young female athletes take to the soccer field.
The introduction of the girls' soccer teams was met with an overwhelming response, as dozens of eager students showcased their skills during tryouts. The enthusiasm extended to parents, teachers, and the wider community, who have been eagerly awaiting this momentous addition to the school's sports program.
While the teams are filled with excitement, they are well aware of the hard work ahead. Coaches and players are building their skills in preparation for the upcoming challenges. With several games against other schools on the horizon -- including one against Grand Mountain on October 11th at Grand Mountain -- the girls are determined to make a strong impression in their first season.
Athletic Director Shawn Vancil commented on the teams, saying, "We're just really excited to be able to offer this opportunity to the community and to the girls at our school -- and being able to support the first ever Janitell girls soccer team is amazing. We're so excited for Ms. Holling and Coach Bellina, and it will be great to see what they're able to do this year."
Coach Bellina also gave his assessment: "The group has strong comradery already. They are great at encouraging each other and teaching each other. Some of the 8th graders are being mentors to the younger players. Soccer-wise, we're probably going to be a defensive team. We are seeing some strong defensive elements. We have some very intuitive players. They are figuring out some of them offensive strategies already, before we even teach them."
