"For a lot of people, 'Dungeons & Dragons' has been a hard thing to describe. I can't tell you how many social environments I've been in where I say, 'I play 'D&D,'' and a bunch of normies will be like, 'How does the game even work? What's that like?' I didn't have anything to really describe it that didn't make me sound like a crazy person." -- Matthew Mercer

The Dragonfire Club at Janitell focuses on Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) and other roleplaying games. So what is it? We'll do our best to tell you.

D&D is a tabletop roleplaying game that allows players to create their own characters and embark on adventures in a fictional world. Players take on the roles of their characters and interact with the world around them by describing their actions and making choices based on the information they have.

The game is typically led by a Dungeon Master (DM), who creates the world and guides the players through the story. The DM describes the environment, non-player characters, and events that happen, while the players decide how their characters respond and what actions they take.

During the game, players use dice to determine the success or failure of their actions. They also have a set of abilities and skills that help determine the outcome of their actions. As the players progress through the story, they may encounter challenges, enemies, and puzzles that they must overcome.

D&D is a collaborative game that encourages creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork. It can be played with a group of friends or with people from all over the world through online platforms. The possibilities are endless in D&D, as the players are free to create and explore their own stories and adventures.

Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) can have many benefits for teenagers from a teacher's perspective. Some of the most notable benefits are:

Improves Critical Thinking: D&D requires players to think critically about their actions and decisions. They must use problem-solving skills to navigate challenges and puzzles, which can help improve their analytical thinking and decision-making abilities.

Enhances Social Skills: D&D is a social game that encourages players to communicate, collaborate, and work together. Teenagers who struggle with social skills may find D&D to be a safe and fun environment to practice interacting with others and developing their social skills.

Promotes Creativity: D&D is a highly creative game that allows players to use their imaginations to create characters, stories, and worlds. This can help teenagers develop their creativity and self-expression, which can be beneficial in all aspects of life.

Fosters Empathy: D&D requires players to take on the roles of characters with different backgrounds, personalities, and motivations. This can help teenagers develop empathy and understanding for others, as they learn to see things from different perspectives.

Encourages Reading and Writing: D&D requires players to read and write character sheets, story elements, and other game-related materials. This can help teenagers improve their literacy skills and develop a love for reading and writing.

Dragonfire Club meets after school in the Janitell Library every Wednesday and Thursday until 5:00 PM. The club is hosted by Mr. Madrid and Mr. Flesher.
