Using a School Laptop — The Agreement

If your student is new to Widefield School District 3 or did not sign the school laptop agreement last year, you will need to complete the agreement this year before your student can take a school laptop home. The agreement helps students and families understand expectations for safe, responsible use of district technology. Families who signed the agreement last year do not need to sign again.

You can sign the agreement using this link. If you need help with the agreement, please contact the Janitell Library at (719) 391-3322 or the Janitell office at (719) 391-3295. If you would prefer a paper copy, you can download and print the English version or the Spanish version (COMING SOON). Signed paper copies may be returned to the Janitell Library.

Laptop pickup dates: Students using a school laptop will receive their device on August 10 for 6th grade or August 11 for 7th and 8th grade.

After receiving the laptop, students and families should carefully review the Device Receipt and the device care tips in English or Spanish (coming soon). Families are encouraged to inspect the laptop as soon as it is received and report any existing damage immediately.

When a student checks out a school laptop and charger, the parent or guardian is accepting responsibility for the care, safe use, and return of the equipment. Families may be charged replacement or repair fees if a laptop or charger is lost, damaged, or not returned to the school. Parents are encouraged to check in with their child from time to time about the condition and location of both the laptop and charger.

Personal Devices

Parents are also welcome to send students to school with their own personal laptop device instead of checking out a district laptop. Students may connect personal devices to the school Wi-Fi network for educational use. If you have questions about using a personal device at school, please contact Mr. Flesher in the Janitell Library at (719) 391-3322.

Guidelines for Using a School Laptop

Need tech help?

Mr. Flesher, our school librarian, is available to help students with school technology issues. Students can stop by the Janitell Library anytime they are having problems with their laptop or account.

Check your device right away.

As soon as your student receives the laptop, inspect it carefully for any damage or problems. If something is broken or not working correctly, complete the Device Receipt and return it to Mr. Flesher immediately so the issue can be documented.

Take care of your charger.

One of the most common reasons students lose chargers is lending them to friends and not getting them back. To help avoid this problem, we strongly recommend leaving the charger at home whenever possible. Replacement chargers cost approximately $30.

Charge the laptop every night.

Students should fully charge their laptop before coming to school each day. A fully charged device usually lasts through the school day and reduces the chance of losing a charger at school.

Handle the laptop carefully.

Laptop screens are fragile and can be expensive to repair. Pressing too hard on the screen, overstuffing backpacks, or dropping bags can cause serious damage. Families are encouraged to use a padded 15.6-inch laptop sleeve for additional protection. Students should never carry the laptop by the screen.

Thank you for helping us make sure students have the tools they need to learn safely and responsibly throughout the school year.
